Abstract
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of exogenous fibrolytic enzymes (EFE) and soapnut (Sapindus mukorossi) shell powder (SSP), alone and in combination, on the haemato-biochemical parameters of Gir calves. Sixteen calves were selected and divided into four groups, with four calves in each group, for a 90-day trial. The control group (T1) received the basal diet without supplementation. Group T2 received EFE at 50,000 IU/kg of concentrate feed, T3 received SSP at 0.5% of concentrate, and T4 received a combination of EFE at 50,000 IU/kg and SSP at 0.5% of concentrate. The fibrolytic enzyme preparation contained cellulase and xylanase in a 1:1 ratio. Blood samples were collected at the beginning and end of the experimental period. Hemoglobin, packed cell volume, serum glucose, total protein, triglycerides, and cholesterol were determined. Supplementation with EFE, SSP, or their combination did not produce statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) in the evaluated haemato-biochemical parameters among the treatment groups. The findings indicate that, under the dietary conditions, supplementation levels, and duration evaluated in this experiment, the mean values of the various haemato-biochemical parameters in calves receiving EFE and SSP alone or in combination remained within the normal physiological range.
